DIY: Goodbye Scum

Pin It Before my husband and I became parents, we would just run to the store and buy whatever kind of bathroom scrub-free cleaner [of which, are collecting dust under the bathroom sink] there was, however, that all changed since the day we found out we were expecting with baby D. Suddenly, we became very aware and conscious of the things we ate [that will be saved for another blog] and of the things we used. To ensure that baby D grows up healthily, we have made many lifestyle changes to the best of our control. Now that I'm a mommy, I am always looking for ways of doing things that are more eco-friendly for my family and me. I love doing  "DIY" searches using the Pinterest App. You'd be surprised with what you find on there. It's become one of my favorite Apps in the whole world.

Just the other night, I stumbled upon the magic solution to getting rid of bathtub scum almost instantaneously. Lucky for me,  I was able to try it out today. Per husband's suggestion of cleaning the bathtub weekly, instead of daily ( I usually wipe down the tiles and tub after every shower use), lots of scum built up!

Disgusting, right?

Now, the only solution I have been using to clean the whole house, since D's arrival,  has been a vinegar/water solution. It works well, in terms of sanitizing and wiping down dirty counter-tops but getting rid of scum? No- I would find myself scrubbing for what seemed like forever; so, when I found this DIY solution, I had to give it a try.

After only 10 minutes, I did a swipe test. It came off EFFORTLESSLY!

It's super easy. Amaze your parents, spouse, partner, etc and trick them into thinking you've worked really hard on scrubbing that scum off!

[Disclaimer: Strong vinegar scent]
1. Decide how much vinegar you want to use. [I used about 1/2 cup]
2. Microwave it in a microwave-safe bowl until it is hot. [ I microwaved it for about 1.5 minutes]
3. Pour the hot content into a spray bottle.
4. Pour/squeeze the same ratio of Dawn [according to Jen, the blue Dawn works best but if anyone decides to experiment with other brands, please comment below and share the results.]
5.  Mix well and have fun spraying the whole tub and tiles!
6. Wait at least 10 minutes and wipe off.

Have fun!
